Young, attractive, well-dressed and slightly bearded twenty-something with sexy girlfriend and an English accent: Is this soft-house?
Me: Well, I wasn’t going to call it that…it’s deep and soulful.
YAWDSBTSSGEA: I haven’t music like this since I left London. Nobody plays music like this in Houston. It’s f****** great.
Me: Yes, it is. I roll with Soular Grooves collective…we play good music, mate…thank you for listening.
Older Bearded Gentleman: What is this that you’re playing?
Me: Ella Fitzgerald.
OBG: No it’s not.
Me: Yes, it is.
OBG: Well, I’m intimately familiar with her voice, and it’s not Ella.
Me: It is. It’s a remix by a group called Cinematic Orchestra.
OBG: So, it’s not her voice.
Me: It is.
OBG: Maybe run through a filter or something.
Me: Maybe. Do you like it or not like it?
OBG: I like it, but it’s not Ella.
Me: OK

So, I am feeling very grateful…a time to reflect on life and death…musically, I’m sticking to my roots, in hopes of never “wavering” again…I hope that you like it…I am really feeling this s***, I have been blessed to have been offered Saturday nights at the best new venue in town “Block 21″…an opportunity to play, well, Saturday night tunes and tunes specifically about Saturday night (one specifically comes to mind)…plus an opportunity to bring in guests that I don’t normally play with to keep things mixed up as much as is possible. F*** music genres. Also, on October 14th, DJ Drew and myself will celebrate the 3-year anniversary of “Sideways Tuesdays” with special guests Tego and Miguel “Mano” Grillo…thank you to those that have generously helped and inspired me over the course of the last month…things just keep getting better…I am soooo lucky…

Dasoul! reminded me of why it is that I DJ in the first place.
Thank you gentlemen. You are very much appreciated.
